April: The Season of Opening
Electric Lady photo shoot
April Journal from the Electric Lady Florals Studio
Spring doesn’t arrive all at once, it unfolds.
I don’t know what it is about April, but it always arrives with a kind of force.
As if all the doors and windows open at once, and a rush of fresh air comes pouring in.
Maybe it’s April Fool’s Day that pulls us into a more playful rhythm.
Or maybe it’s the shift in light, the undeniable feeling that something has begun again.
This is the moment in the year when everything starts to move.
This year opened under the Libra full moon, a moment that called for balance, beauty, and reflection. A quiet pause before everything begins to lift, and then, almost instantly, the energy changes.
The first warm days sweep us off our feet ! It feels like freedom !
Suddenly there are endless possibilities: flowers, events, gardens, openings, everything blooming all at once. The senses feel flooded with color, scent, and texture and somehow, by the second week, there is already a need to pause and catch up with it all.
April carries both momentum and overwhelm.
Movement and stillness.
Fire and softness.
April projects
This month, I’ve been working on an outdoor floral sculpture for a client’s terrace, an exposed, windy space with very little sunlight. The intention has been to create something grounded and enduring, using wisteria branches, moss-covered limbs, and preserved moss from my previous installation.
It’s a quieter kind of work. More sculptural than floral.
I found myself thinking about line, repetition, and restraint, allowing the form to hold its own presence in the space.

I’m also excited to share that Harris Homes BK, a vintage wares shop opened in my neighborhood recently.
Katherine, the owner, has such an incredible eye, her style feels both effortless and intentional. I will be selling bouquets there on most weekends, and we’re currently planning a special pop-up together for Earth Day. More to come on that soon.
A Seasonal Invitation
At the market, the shift is undeniable now, the abundance has arrived.
I’ve been drawn to calla lilies lately, I love them for Easter and Passover. They are strong, sculptural, long-lasting, with such a delicate, almost quiet face. They pair beautifully with branches of forsythia, creating that balance between structure and wildness.
Tulips are everywhere right now, in the most electric colors. They’re still one of my absolute favorites, the way they move, stretch, and continue to open feels almost alive in your hands.
For scent, I’ve been layering in hyacinth, rich and unmistakable, or weaving in strands of jasmine vine, letting it run and twist through arrangements like a soft thread of perfume.
For my more bold, fire-forward Aries clients, I’m still drawn to pincushion protea in vibrant orange, and poppies in every shade, flowers that feel expressive, a little wild, a little untamed.
And then there are the quieter notes, daffodils standing tall in soft whites, yellows, and oranges, and of course, cherry blossoms, fleeting and impossibly beautiful. If you can, make time to visit Brooklyn Botanic Garden this month, or even take a trip to Washington, D.C. to experience them in full bloom. They never last long, and that’s part of their magic.
April always feels like a study in contrast, movement and stillness, overwhelm and beauty, fire and softness.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, the flowers find their way.
I offer floral installations and subscriptions for homes and businesses, both indoor and outdoor.
You can inquire through my website, or explore my seasonal offerings, including the Aries Astro Bouquet, designed to channel this moment of bold, expressive energy.
