May: Month of Truth
Taurus Astro Arrangement
May Journal from the Electric Lady Florals Studio
May arrived with a full moon in Scorpio, deep, illuminating, and impossible to ignore.
It felt like the kind of moon that pulls the hidden things to the surface. The truths we have been circling, the feelings we have tucked away, the places in our lives that are asking not just to be seen, but to be transformed.
I have been thinking about truth in relation to flowers.
Flowers never pretend! They open when they are ready, they wilt when they are finished, they bruise when they have been handled too roughly, they turn toward light, they tell us exactly where they are in their cycle. Bud, bloom, decay, seed, there is something deeply honest about that.
May is Taurus season, and Taurus asks us to return to the body, to the earth, to beauty, to pleasure, to what is real. Taurus is the hand in the soil, the table set with intention, the scent of peonies opening in a warm room, the slow unfolding of something that cannot be rushed.
This month I am working with flowers that feel deeply connected to May’s language of truth, beauty, and transformation: Lily of the Valley, peonies, irises, fritillaria and lilac.
Lily of the Valley feels like a tiny bell of renewal. Delicate, fragrant, and quietly powerful. It speaks to sweetness, protection, humility, and the return of happiness.
Peonies are May’s great love letter: lush, romantic, fleeting, and impossibly generous. They arrive tightly held, then open into abundance, reminding us that timing is everything.
Irises bring a sense of intuition and message. Named for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, they feel like a bridge between worlds, elegant, architectural, and quietly mystical.
Fritillaria adds a more unusual, shadowy beauty. With its nodding heads and checkered pattern, it feels secretive and otherworldly, a perfect flower for the Scorpio undercurrent of the month.
Lilac carries memory, tenderness, and the ache of spring. Its fragrance is nostalgic and almost cinematic, reminding us how scent can bring the past into the present in an instant.
Together, these materials feel like May itself: soft but strong, fragrant but fleeting, romantic but truthful.
Beltane Celebration
May Collaborations:
May also opened with a celebration of Beltane, the ancient seasonal festival that marks the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, a time of fertility, fire, creativity, pleasure, and manifestation.
Together with Good Standing Official, we gathered to honor the turning of the season with flowers, astrology, food, and ritual. We were joined by Lucy Owen from Taos, New Mexico, who offered beautiful insight into the meaning of Beltane, how to celebrate it, and how to work with this potent seasonal energy for manifestation.
There was something deeply moving about gathering in community at this threshold moment. Electric Lady Florals gave a demo on flower crowns. The flower crowns felt especially symbolic: small wearable altars, woven with beauty, intention, and the wild energy of the season. To place flowers on the head is to crown ourselves with what is blooming, to honor creativity, sensuality, softness, and becoming.
Brooklyn Bridge Park Women’s Luncheon, Lily of the Valley mini bouquets
Brooklyn Bridge Park Women’s Luncheon
On May 1, I was honored to create Lily of the Valley mini bouquets for the Brooklyn Bridge Park Women’s Lunch: The Shared Table, an afternoon celebrating food, hospitality, culture, and the power of gathering. The conversation brought together Alison Roman, Ashley Coiffard of L’Appartement 4F, and Clare de Boer of Stissing House, moderated by Dee Poku-Spalding, founder and CEO of The WIE Suite. The event supported Brooklyn Bridge Park’s new Education Center and centered on the ways food, community, and stewardship shape how we gather.
Lily of the Valley felt like the perfect flower for the moment.
