This August Journal is arriving much later than I intended. But in a way, that feels true to the season itself. August was full of work, travel, transition, and the quiet preparations that happen before something new is ready to be seen.
Much of the month was shaped by my work at the gallery. Being in that space, surrounded by art and the conversations it creates, continues to influence how I think about my own practice. Gallery work asks for a particular kind of presence: looking closely, caring for details, and helping create the conditions in which art can be encountered.

Cape Cod Yearly Pilgrimage
My family and I have been traveling to Cape Cod every summer since 2013, it is our yearly family vacation. We rest, read, spend long days at Brush Hollow beach watching the wildlife pass by, swim in the ponds and eat lobster almost every day.
Time near the water, changing light, salt air, and the textures of the landscape gave me room this summer to step outside my usual routines. I am always observing the mossy branches, how they are scattered through the forest naturally with the wildflowers blooming around them. Sometimes my work there is simply observing, paying attention to color, movement, atmosphere, and the way a place makes me feel. Those impressions often enter the work later, in ways I couldn’t have planned. I did some foraging this summer and was able to slip a mossy branch into the car, although my daughter was not happy about it!
Leo into Virgo Season
Leo into Virgo Season - Eclipsed
August is carrying us from Leo season into Virgo season, with eclipse season intensifying the feeling that something was shifting beneath the surface. Leo brings warmth, visibility, creativity, and the courage to take up space. Virgo turns our attention toward refinement, ritual, organization, and the practical care required to bring an idea into form.
I am feeling that transition very clearly!
There have been moments of outward movement travel, gallery life, gathering inspiration, and then a gradual turn inward toward sorting, editing, organizing, and preparing. Eclipse season can illuminate what is ready to change, sometimes before we feel entirely prepared for it. For me, it has been a period of recognizing what I want to carry forward and what needs to be reimagined.
Behind the scenes, I’ve also been working on my new website and preparing for my fall work. Much of this labor is nearly invisible: selecting images, revisiting older work, writing and rewriting, organizing materials, considering how everything connects, and building a clearer home for the work online. It can feel slow, but these preparations are part of the practice too. They create the structure that allows the next chapter to emerge.

One of the most significant changes this month has been moving into my new studio. A studio becomes more than a room; over time, it develops its own atmosphere and way of holding the work. Right now, I’m still learning this space, where the light falls, how I want to move through it, and what kinds of ideas it might invite. Unpacking, arranging, and beginning again have all become part of the creative process.
As I settle into the new studio and move closer to sharing what I’ve been developing, I can feel the season beginning to turn. There is still much happening quietly, but the work is taking shape. I look forward to bringing more of it into the light this fall. Stay tuned!
